Tumbling Creek Farm was born during the winter of 2008 when we purchased 38 acres of woodland and small meadows. We cleared an acre of scotch broom and planted fruit trees, berries, and asparagus. In 2010 we began growing shiitake mushrooms on logs and in the last three years have added five varieties of oyster mushrooms, more shiitake, lion’s mane and pioppini mushrooms. In addition to our mushrooms and perennials, we grow a variety of annual produce. We are certified organic and certified biodynamic. We use a no-till method of farming, 100% drip irrigation, and harvest rainwater. We use no pesticides or herbicides. We have an abundance of beneficial insects, birds, and native pollinators. Our on-site compost made from our garden and kitchen waste and the manure from our sheep and chickens is our only fertilizer. We use local biodynamic preps made from local plants to help enliven and nourish the garden. When we purchased our land in 2008 we made the commitment to each other that we would nurture and care for our land, that we would treat it as a gift, and it has been.
